The project constellation consists of 6 collaboration partners from universities and commercial actors and is partly sponsored by Vinnova. The goal is to build a full-scale demonstration plant for the sustainable cultivation of aquatic organisms on land. This includes operating, validating, and evaluating the technical and biological production process under real conditions. The purpose is to show the system’s functions and benefits on a scale relevant to the market. Furthermore, the facility will increase the maturity of the technology by taking it from being unproven at full scale to a proven product that can be presented to customers and investors.
With only minor adaptations, the standardized turn-key facility will be sold or leased to customers in and outside Sweden. The standardization makes the concept commercially viable and fills a need in the so-called Blue Foods market.
The size and capacity of the production facility, approx. 2000 tonnes per year, means a limited need for water, energy, and land. It opens for locally produced food with very little environmental impact.
The vision is to be able to sell a significant number of facilities in delivery projects within and outside the EU.
The potential in this emerging market is considered significant as the blue foods market and land-based production of fish is an emerging mega-market.
